China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing)

Founded in 1909, China University of Mining and Technology-Beijing (abbreviated as CUMTB) has just celebrated its 100th anniversary. The university is one of the key universities directly supervised by the Ministry of Education. Giving priority to engineering courses among the other disciplines of science, liberal arts, management, law, and economics, CUMTB is a university with mining features. Having been listed in the national “985 Project” innovation platform and the “211 project,” it is also one of the first universities for the Strategic Alliance of Industrial Technology Innovation and one of the first universities authorized to confer doctorial and master degrees.

Currently, CUMTB consists of one graduate school and 8 academic schools. It has a total of over 740 faculty and staff members. Among the academic staff, there are 10 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (including 6 honorary academicians from CUMTB), 125 supervisors for doctoral students, 130 supervisors for master students, 109 full professors, and 104 associate professors. At present, the total number of students in CUMTB exceeds 10,000. CUMTB has 8 national key disciplines, 16 provincial key disciplines, and 9 first-grade disciplines conferring doctor and master degrees. It also possesses 8 “211 Project” construction programs during the Tenth Five-Year Plan period, 8 disciplines offering positions in the “Cheung Kong Scholar Program” for special, appointed professors, and 12 post doctoral research stations. CUMTB offers 50 specialties for doctoral students, 96 specialties for master students, and 62 specialties for undergraduates. It has 2 State Key Laboratories and one National Engineering Research Center, together with one key laboratory and 2 engineering research centers listed by the China Ministry of Education, one key laboratory listed by the Beijing Municipal Government, and more than 20 basic laboratories in various disciplines. In 2007, CUMTB built “Zhongguancun Energy and Safety Science and Technology Park” and the “CUMT Enterprise Park for Returned Overseas Scholars,” which is the first science and technology park characterized by energy and safety in China.

Located on Xueyuan Road in Haidian District, which is full of famous universities, CUMTB also lies adjacent to the Olympic Forest Park. Equipped with good facilities serving instruction and research, CUMTB provides a desirable environment for students. It admits international enrollments from language students, undergraduate students, to doctors covering all of its specialties.
